Aruba International Film Festival has run June 4 to 11, 2010
Legendary leading man and activist Richard Gere opened the inaugural Aruba International Film Festival (AIFF) as its official host when the Festival unspooled this June. In addition to opening the Festival, Gere has been bestowed with a special humanitarian award and participate in the Festival’s “In Conversations With” series engaging the Festival audience.
The stars have be shining bright at this year's AIFF. In addition to legendary leading man and activist Richard Gere being in attendance,
Notable guests participating in the "In Conversation With" series included Oscar® and Golden Globe® nominee Guillermo Arriaga ("Babel" "21 Grams"), whose highly acclaimed film "The Burning Plain" was screening in the festival; multiple Academy Award® winner editor Thelma Schoonmaker ("The Departed" "Goodfellas" "The Aviator"); Academy Award® nominated actress Patricia Clarkson ("Pieces of April" "Shutter Island" "Lars and the Real Girl"); Oscar® nominated actor Griffin Dunne ("Game 6" "My Girl" "Johnny Dangerously") and famous Indian choreographer Longiness Fernandes ("Slumdog Millionaire").

Chris D'Arienzo was unable to make it to the first AIFF but his film was and indeed proved a hit among viewers.
After the festival, I contacted my talented writer friend and asked him if he'd answer a few questions for me about the experience of making his first feature film. Ironically, I had asked to interview him 3 months before the festival for a research project I was doing for University of London but he was too busy so I wrote about David Lynch instead.

The party didn't stop at the red carpet... From a week of whacky island adventures off the road in Aruba, to cocktail parties till late - it was hard to get much reviewing done, I was having too much fun. I quickly had to master the art of speaking eloquently about international cinema whilst balancing a plate of hors doevres and a glass of Moet in one hand, and a designer handbag in the other- and they don't teach you that in film school.

Cairo Time's director Ruba Nadda, producer Daniel Iron and lead actress Patricia Clarkson arrived in Aruba in the midst of the first AIFF to the site of masked Aruban dancers and the bottoms up of Moet Champagne glasses. Program details for the inaugural Aruba International Film Festival (AIFF), which takes place June 4-11, 2010, have been revealed.
The Festival will showcase 25 films from 16 different countries, featuring several international premieres and many Caribbean/South American premieres. The lineup was announced by AIFF Artistic Director Claudio Masenza along with Festival founders Giuseppe Ciocarrelli and Jonathan Vieira.

On 04 June 2010, Richard Gere appeared at the first Aruba Film Festival to accept an award of the Golden Aruba Award, the first ever given by the minister of tourism of Aruba Otmar Oduber and the festival organizer Claudio Massenza. It was given for Gere's lifetime achievements as true screen legend as well as humanitarian activist. Audiences were moved by Gere's eloquent acceptance speech as he praised Aruba for having put such a festival together.
