BRUSSELS EUROPEAN FILM FESTIVAL & CINEDECOUVERTES 2008

The 6th edition of the Brussels European Film Festival successfully opened in a good mood this Saturday 28 June. In front of a fully packed room, Hany Tamba and his actrice Pierrette Katrib presented their franco-lebanese film UNE CHANSON DANS LA TETE (Melodrama Habibi) in world premiere.

The director of the festival & producer Dominique Janne - The coordinator of the festival Michel de Schaetzen The crew of the film Une chanson dans la tête on the stage.

Stephanie Ronnet: When was the Los Angeles Film Festival created ? Can you describe that festival?

Richard Raddon: The Los Angeles Film Festival began as the Los Angeles International Film Festival [LAIFF] in 1995. The LAIFF took place over the course of five days in one location at the DGA in Hollywood, California. The LAIFF ran for 7 years, until it was absorbed by Film Independent (formerly IFP/Los Angeles) in 2001. At it's height the LAIFF attracted 19,000 attendees. Today the Los Angeles Film Festival attracts over 80,000 visitors.

YouTubeTM today announced The YouTube Screening Room for filmmakers around the world to distribute their work, build an audience, and generate revenue. This dedicated area on YouTube will showcase an international selection of films. The YouTube Screening Room (www.youtube.com/ytscreeningroom) will feature four new high-quality short films every two weeks, as well as feature-length films on a case-by-case basis, creating new business opportunities for filmmakers and bringing informative, timely and entertaining films to the YouTube community around the world.

Full jury list for Sydney Festival new competition

The full Jury for its inaugural Official Competition. Australian actress Essie Davis and LA film writer and critic Scott Foundas will join Jury President Gillian Armstrong, Hong Kong producer Nansun Shi and Iranian director/writer/producer Majid Majidi.

Running 4-22 June, Sydney Film Festival has opened with the one of the Official Competition films, Mike Leigh's Happy-Go-Lucky. All 12 Competition films will have a Red Carpet Premiere over the first 12 nights of the festival.
