Still Green Blog 14 : Thousands of Dead Fish

On Friday September 8th a miraculous thing happened. After faxing one last round of term sheets to our attorney, a final $5,000 was now safely in the bank, putting our account at $7,500. I met Andrea at our favorite Starbucks on Fifth Ave, and we calculated every dollar we’d need to get through the last week of the shoot. And suddenly it was like a big black ball of slim just shot out of my chest, oozed through my skin, and was finally out of me. WE HAD ENOUGH MONEY TO FINISH PRODUCTION!

Greetings And Salutations…

This will be my official introductory post for what I hope is a long and fruitful film column/blog.

The basics - 28 years old, married with one child, currently residing in Woodland Hills, CA. Aside from my day job (kind of a secret, but it’s independent contracting), I dabble in voice over and occasionally play around on the Improv scene.

So I’m going to kick off my new weekly Fanticipation blog with “My Name is Bruce.” Fanticipation is a segment I do every week on Reelzchannel’s flagship movie news show “Dailies” and in the segment we take a look at a trailer for an upcoming movie and then we see what people are saying about [...]

Still Green Blog 13: The Barriers

On a low budget indie film, you don’t have the luxury of extending your shoot, coming back later and picking up where you left off, building a set somewhere to mimic the locations you can no longer access, or paying anyone to take time off from whatever new project (s) they had moved onto to. You have this set allotted time to get everything you need to get in, and that’s it. It’d like for those five weeks you are a football team in a huddle, but then someone says “break” everyone scatters.

Still Green Blog 12: Director Checklist

If you are reading this you have most likely just watched Steve’s last episode, where the climax is clearly, the fact that this tropical storm called “Hurricane Katrina” is heading straight towards Naples, where a small group of indie filmmakers are living in a house on the beach, all scared shitless.

But the whole point of Steve’s series is to present our struggles through the perspective of someone totally outside of our production team. So I am not going to slant anything Katrina related by blogging about it right now.

INTERNET S.T.F.U. Issue 3

Since this new blog endeavor seems to be leaning towards calling out fellow writers and journalists, I thought I’d take issue 3 of “Internet Stuff That’s Frigging Ubiquitous” in another direction. This time, I’m lookin’ at you readers. Specifically those who are falling all over themselves to shake a fist in the face of George Lucas and what they perceive as his shift to the darkside over the last decade.

Still Green Blog 11: Swallowing Tongues

Something I love about Steve’s episodes is seeing how someone outside of our production viewed what was going on behind our scenes; especially when, such as our time in that dance club, his perspective of the experience is so opposite of my memories that I wonder if we were even working on the same movie.

The Comic-Con… in song…

My friend, and longtime Film Threat contributer, Dennis Przywara was on-hand at the 2008 San Diego Comic-Con, and decided to record bits and pieces of the Masquerade Ball, including moments of confusion as they flashed over my face (and when I not aware of his filming me). Here’s the video of my confusion:

Followed by what Dennis was able to put together with said confusion, some Lionel Ritchie and geeks behaving… geeky:

Still Green Blog 10: The Blender

First there is a script. Then the script is turned into something entirely different during production. Then the real movie, combining the best of both, is assembled in the editing room. I believe any film can be saved, made extraordinary, or completely ruined in post, and that until a final final final final cut is complete, all judgment about how well the film has turned out must be suspended.

So the internets are abuzz this week with a new venture sure to satisfy fans of horror, comedy and general weirdness. “XBox Live” has announced a slate of horror-comedy (horror-com?) films that will be released on the video game system this fall featuring some of the best and brightest horror filmmakers around. Directors for the series, which is titled “Masters of Horror Take on Comedy,” include James Gunn (“Slither”), Marcus Nispel (“Texas Chainsaw Massacre”), James Wan (“Saw”), David Slade (“30 Days of Night”) and Lucky McKee (“The Woods.”)
