flicksart's blogThe Rhode Island International Film Festival has secured its place in the global community as the portal for the best in international independent cinema; earning the respect of domestic and foreign filmmakers, filmgoers and trend watchers. This confluence of art and commerce brought together world-class celebrities, award-winning filmmakers, new talent and audience members. Ranked as one of the top 12 Festivals in the United States, RIIFF is also a qualifying festival for the Short Film Academy Award through its affiliation with the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences. It is the only festival in New England with this accolade. Demetria J. Carr: RIIFF's New Managing DirectorThe Board of Flickers and the Advisory Board of the Rhode Island International Film Festival are pleased to announce the promotion of Demetria James Carr to the position of Managing Director. A member of the RIIFF staff for the past three years, she will oversee the creation of events, participate in marketing and work on developing community awareness, among other duties.
Demetria Carr has a passion for the Arts and for the city of Providence. She’s the Managing Director at RIIFF and creates events, participates in marketing and developing community awareness. Demetria brings experience from Rhode Island Monthly Magazine and Vegetarian Times in Chicago. For 10 years she was an integral part of Festival Ballet Providence where she sat on the Board of Directors. Demetria is also Past President of Friends of the Ballet, the Ballet’s volunteer force. Demetria brings her enthusiasm and drive to RIIFF in hopes of expanding its presence in Rhode Island and beyond. Demetria holds a BA from Skidmore College, a Master’s in Physiology from the University of Hawaii, and an MBA from Pepperdine University in California.

(Rhode Island International Film Festival (dba: Flickers Arts Collaborative)) George Thomas Marshall is the founder and producing director of the Flickers Arts Collaborative, a non-profit organization with over 25 years of experience producing programming and creative outlets for filmmakers, visual and performing artists. In addition to producing the acclaimed Rhode Island International Film Festival, one of Flickers' most successful events to date, it also created the annual Jubilé Franco-Américain - a week-long celebration of French Canadian culture, art and cuisine which is held annually in Northern R.I.
