The European Independent Film Festival (ÉCU) continues its commitment of being at the centre of discovery, promotion and projection of the very best independent filmmaking talent from around the world.
ÉCU will showcase films that demonstrate quality, innovation and independence in both form and content. There are fifteen categories of films in this highly esteemed competitive festival ranging including features, shorts, documentaries, animation and student films.
While ÉCU’s goal is to bring worldwide attention to European independent filmmakers, there are also four foreign categories open to independent filmmakers from the Americas, Africa and Asia.
The festival will take place in Paris in March 12-14 2010.
The European Independent Film Festival (ÉCU) has established itself as a fantastic arena for independent filmmakers from around the world to screen their films to large audiences made up of a cinema-loving public who are seeking alternatives to the offerings of major studios, as well as to agents, talent scouts, production company representatives, distributors and established producers looking for new projects and raw talent. Of course several hundred independent filmmakers from around the world will be in Paris to participate in the ÉCU.
With interest from large sections of European and international press, this is a great opportunity for independent filmmakers to get recognition for their films. Attending directors will also have the opportunity to speak about their films at our “Speak to the Directors” panel sessions which take place throughout the festival.
“The European Independent festival has proved to be a true breakthrough for Indie Filmmakers in Europe. ÉCU 2010 offers European independent filmmakers the chance to screen their films to an audience hungry for high-quality independent films, exposes them to other independent filmmaker’s work and gives them a forum to exchange ideas with other filmmakers. I believe that all of this will help them a great deal in their future filmmaking ventures.”
-Scott Hillier, President of The European Independent Film Festival.
Now in its seventh year, WFF Bangkok has managed to maintain its artistic integrity despite operating on a relatively small budget.

Documenta Madrid is an international film festival dedicated exclusively to documentary film. Its offices are located in the capital of Spain and it is organized by the City of Madrid. It is presently the city's most widely-attended festival.
The festival was born for the purpose of strengthening and disseminating the documentary genre, in so far as it understood to be a reflection of the social, cultural, economic, artistic, environmental, and other realities that exist in the world.
From the selection of films, which is done exclusively using qualitative criteria and respect for any and all critical viewpoints of our surroundings, Documenta seeks to provide an annual meeting place for professionals, creators, and the public to whom the work is aimed.
Documenta is a continuously evolving festival and aspires to improve year after year as a showcase for the best in international documentary film, one which brings us closer to both the classics as well as the latest offerings in the genre. For this reason, we dedicate our attention equally to three general blocks of activities: screenings (in both public and private screening rooms, and conserving the original language and formats), parallel activities (publications, exhibitions, presentations, gatherings, round tables, DVD releases, etc.), and training activities (conferences, instructional classes, workshops, etc.).
Our understanding of the documentary is based on a dual commitment. Firstly, a commitment to aesthetics, which shows how present day documentary filmmaking breaks new ground in its language and form, thus distancing itself for the most part from the standardized norms. Secondly, we are convinced that non-fiction work makes us all more aware of the need to change the world in order to improve it. Our most intimate calling, our dream, is that by opening some windows to the world in each screening, we make an audience member aware of an issue, and thereby make that person reflect on it, make the issue his/her own, and perhaps then... do something about it.
Along with this wish, two other priorities for the festival are to further enjoy making Documenta Madrid a reality and to make the guests and attendees feel at home among us.

Sunday, June 22-----A film festival is invariably a series of moments. And if one is lucky, there is an interesting symmetry between those moments. And if one is very lucky indeed, then a special kind of serendipity brings those moments into some deeper understanding. When those moments are not officially related to one another, but still offer illuminating cross-referencing, it is all the more special. This was my experience over the past two days as I attended the final films of this year's...
Saturday, June 21------As SILVERDOCS enters its final weekend, one is both encouraged and discouraged by the assessments of many professionals who have appeared on panels as part of the parallel International Documentary Conference. While the sheer number of films here (over 120 screened, over 1500 submitted)) is evidence of a spike in documentary production around the world, the performance of recent films at the box office has made for quite a sober event here. "We are experiencing th...
Saturday, June 21-------How does one make a film based in a divided East Jerusalem that is not overtly political? That was the challenge for French director Georgi Lazarevski in his documentary film THS WAY UP, which had its East Coast Premiere at SILVERDOCS yesterday. The film is set in the Our Lady of Sorrows nursing home in East Jerusalem, a venerable (if delapidated) institution for aging Catholic Palestinians. Residents once had a sweeping view of the city of Jerusalem but that has been ...
Saturday, June 21-----In celebrations being held around the world, the events and repercussions of that pivotal year in world history, 1968, are being discussed, remembered and even eulogized. The events of that turbulent year in political and social history are best experienced and explained through the music of the times and the films of the era.At SILVERDOCS, the Festival is presenting a sidebar program entitled 1968 AND BEYOND that offers several seminal films from 1968 that give as accura...
