This is a portrait on film, in action and in real time, of one of the greatest players in the history of soccer, Zinédine Zidane.

Seventeen synchronized cameras were used, mixing super 35mm and High Definition, each focusing solely on Zinédine Zidane from the first kick of the ball to the final whistle.

This 360 degree perspective along with a sound universe that recreates the environment of the crowd allows us to enter into a multidimensional space leading the spectator to experience the sensations, the psychology and the body of a moving athlete.

Presented out of competition in Cannes, May 23, 2006.

Very Short Movies Founder and President Serge Polakoff and actress Linda Gray presented ten awards at the Second Annual Very Short Movies festival closing award presentation at the Egyptian Theatre in Hollywood.

The awards were in the competitive categories of drama, comedy, animation, documentary, experimental and music video. The “New Frontier” Award was also selected for the top innovative work of the festival and two Audience Choice Awards were tallied and announced at the closing night.

The Grand Jury Award and “Best of the Fest” went to VEND by Australian filmmaker James Findlay.

The international cadre of filmmakers from the United States and 11 countries included 40 of the represented filmmakers who attended in person. Many of them participated in “Open Access,” a mentoring program that included introductions to agents and film companies as diverse as CAA, Endeavor, Innovative Artists, Cartoon Network, The Collective, Fox Searchlight Pictures, Lions Gate Films, Paramount Vantage and Nickelodeon, among others.

“We are pleased with the growth of VSM in just the second year,” stated Mr. Polakoff. We increased our attendance to over 2,000 for just three days of competitive and special series. We are also proud that we were the very first film festival to present Oscar® winning and nominated shorts for our opening night program, while the glow was still apparent.”

We bring student work to the big screen through our regular cinema events in London, Berlin and Budapest, and distribute show reels to international festivals and cinemas, giving the stars of tomorrow unique international exposure.

From submissions by students across the world we pick the most innovative and compelling work which shows the great quality and variety of media, techniques and ideas being made. We at EMERGEANDSEE believe that we're now in a world where good ideas are valued much more than technical perfection - and EMERGEANDSEE is showing these ideas and supporting the people who create it.

EMERGEANDSEE is not a commercial enterprise. Everybody working for EMERGEANDSEE does this voluntarily because they believe in supporting student short film and its directors.

The Winner
After a successful event on the 25th and 26th of May at Kino Babylon Berlin Mitte, EMERGEANDSEE is proud to announce the winner of the competition: David Scharf's film "The Big Brother State".
The critical animation about public surveillance methods was chosen by the jury among 30 excellent submissions.
